Turning the dial to the left should turn if off until you turn it back to the right. I know what you mean though. I used to have the same appliances (in my old place) but you couldn't turn the buzzer off. I would just about jump out of my skin everytime it went off!

Turning it to the off position will keep the buzzer silent until you turn it back on. Unfortunatley I haven't found a volume control yet so it stays off!!!!
